Woman Mugged for Xbox 360
[Entei - Xbox Village] [Comments  -  159]
As far as I know, this is an exclusive in video game news. I saw it on my local Fox 5.

A woman in Atlanta had just finished purchasing the new Xbox 360, and was about to enter her house when a man with a gun confronted her. He held the gun to her forehead and asked for the 360, saying he would shoot her if she didn't hand it over. The woman, of course, handed it over.

In an interview, the woman said "I just knew if I didn't give over the Xbox, he'd shoot me right there." The 360 was a present for her grandchildren. People are just getting so desperate, it's pretty crazy to do this for a video game system. I wonder if he stole the games and anything else, or if it was just a core. Serves him right if it was.

Today's the Day
[Scoots - Xbox Village] [Comments  -  3]
The day has come, the new Xbox 360 next-gen console is out in stores. I'm getting reports of pretty limited availability, but I haven't checked myself (still contemplating the purchase). The demo's in the kiosk's certainly make it out to be a real step up from the original, and I look forward to spending some time with one very soon.

If you're one of the lucky few to score a new 360, drop us a note with your thoughts, or leave a comments.

Update:
Apparently, ever single Xbox 360 shipped to retailers has been purchased by scalpers who have put them up for sale on eBay, at up to 500% (even 1000%) markup. There are currently 300 pages of Xbox 360's for sale on eBay, hundreds of them listed at over $2,000 (with bids).

Official Xbox360 Prices
[Lonestar - Xbox Village] [Comments  -  157]
CNN has a story on the pricing of the Xbox360 and the accessories:

Microsoft Wednesday announced two pricing plans for its next generation video game console. When the Xbox 360 goes on sale this holiday season, buyers will be able to purchase a no-frills version for $299.99 or a bells-and-whistles version for $399.99
The less-expensive core system will feature only the Xbox 360 console with a controller, which has to be plugged into the system to play games. The $400 option will come with a 20 GB hard drive, a wireless controller, a headset (used for talking with other players online) that stylistically matches the Xbox 360 and, for a limited time, a remote control allowing users to more easily access the machine's multimedia functions.
Microsoft also announced the price points for over a dozen Xbox 360 accessories, including stand-alone wireless controllers ($50), detachable 20 GB hard drives ($100), headsets ($20) and Xbox 360 faceplates ($20), which allow users to customize their machine.

Xbox 360 Revealed?
[Sodge - Xbox Village] [Comments  -  31]
"An exclusive Kotaku source" has revealed a plethora of information dealing with Microsoft's next-generation console, the Xbox 360, and they've decided to publicize it.

Some of the inner workings of the 360° have also been confirmed. The device will feature high definition audio and video and wireless controllers, and will come in two flavors—one with a hard drive and one without. The biggest shock is that while Microsoft wants to make their 360° backwards compatible, they haven’t yet been able to pull it off.

Want the dirt? Hit up Kotaku.

Pirates of the internets strike again
[Sodge - Xbox Village] [Comments  -  1]
Another day, another game leaked. This time it's the much-hyped Halo 2, sequel to the 2001 release of the same name (minus the '2' of course) which earned numerous Game of the Year awards. The story according to EvilAvatar is that the game was leaked 27 days prior to its release and that the game is a PAL version of the game, which features French dialogue. The game is indeed the full product--no one knows how it was leaked at this point in time though--and has been making the rounds of various peer-to-peer networks and the like.

Also, the new Halo 2 website gone live. It's not all spoiler-free, though. Watch it.

Level 3 Says to Provide Xbox Online Infrastructure
[Scoots - Xbox Village] [Comments  -  2]
Level 3 Communications Inc., the high-speed networking company that recently brought Warren Buffett on as an investor, said on Monday it will provide infrastructure services for Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox Live online gaming service.

Xbox Live, which is set to launch later this year after beta tests this summer, is part of Microsoft's multibillion-dollar video gaming strategy and also part of the company's strategy for linking broadband networking and home entertainment services.

Buffett, part of a group which invested $500 million in Broomfield, Colorado-based Level 3 two weeks ago, is an old friend of Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates.

Under the deal, terms of which were not disclosed, Level 3 will provide Internet access and private network services for Xbox Live, a subscription service that will cost $49 for the first year.

The news of Level 3's involvement is of interest to me in particular, because I used to work at the company that Level 3's current management team used to run, and have met and spoke with some of them personally. About 1/3rd of the investors in Omaha own shares of Level 3, including myself, because we have great faith in the company and it's management, and their track record for building successful companies.

This is great news for Xbox fans, and shows a serious dedication to providing start of the art network connectivity for their Xbox Live service.
